About Pete's Sake
Want to know more about Pete's Sake? Then read on...
When did Pete's Sake form?
Pete's Sake formed at the beginning of 2007 after TinLids disbanded.
Who came up with the duo's name?
The name is absolutely nothing to do with Pete Turner! It came from something that Jesus Dave said one night in the Bargeman's Rest, and it just stuck.
Why not continue the name TinLids?
TinLids was Becky, John and Phil, and without John the band and its name could not continue. New name, new beginnings...
Phil's Biog...
Phil has been on the folk scene for some 25 years, originally playing at the folk clubs around the island before playing with folk heroes John Newman and during the 90's the late Richard Bimson (Junction 26 and Wiretapper) and On-The-Edge man Irish Dave (Dave Kiersey). Phil is a true musician in his own right, singing with steely determination and can also play a mean guitar. He is also a member of the duo, Scarecrow, with John Newman, and island folk-rock band, Smoke and Mirrors. Go to www.smokeandmirrorsmusic.co.uk for info on the band.
Becky's Biog...
Becky has been playing the violin and piano since primary school, and although trained in the classical style, she has always preferred busking and playing folk/blues. After playing with a number of bands in the Lake District, Becky moved to the island, played with Island Cloggies/Appalachian tap group and did a short spell with Sporting Life/Wayward Sons. She has been playing in bands with Phil for about 10 years. Becky is also the fiddle/accordion player in the band, Smoke and Mirrors, and can often be heard at various sessions across the island. See www.folknstuff.blogspot.com for details of sessions.
What sort of music do Pete's Sake play?
Phil and Becky play a balance of songs and tunes, mainly in the traditional folk style. At the moment favourite songwriters include Tim O'Brien, Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, Show of Hands, Teddy Thompson and Dick Gaughan. Tunes come from a variety sources including Jay Ungar, Altan, Scott Joplin, North Cregg and from sitting in at local sessions. They also play a number of well-known traditional songs especially at weddings and special events.
